Complicated transport problem

Hi,

we are having a traditionel transport optimization problem, with several wood piles (supply) on different places out int the forests and several forest industries (demand).

But the wood piles are owned by different companies.

And the wood piles are supposed to be swapped, exchanged, between the companies, to achieve shortest total transportation distance (total transportation cost).

How would you charatarize this kind of optimization problem? I haven’t found anything similar in GAMS big archive.

Hello friend, isn´t this the classical transportation problem with some aditional constraints?

Read this and see if it is similar:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transportation_theory_(mathematics)

If it is, you only need to insert new constraints which restricts from where the demand comes.

If you products walk among more than 3 nodes, so, you could have an routering problem and the things will be a little bit harder.

In this case, you likely have a Vehicle Routing Problem.

Can you describe your problem better?

Best Regards,
Jack
