Alternatives to GDXXR for Loading/Writing Excel Data in MacOS

It is well known that the GDXXR package does not function properly on MacOS. I haven’t been using GAMS for very long, but after looking for alternatives, I’m still unclear about the best option to fill this (quite significant) gap for GAMS users on MacOS. I’ve seen some references to possible solutions, but I wanted to ask for the community’s insights to ensure I’m not missing something obvious.

So far, I’ve explored a few options, such as using CSV files as an intermediary or leveraging Python, but I would like to hear from others who have more experience in this area. Specifically, I’m looking for the most reliable and efficient method to import data from Excel into GAMS on a Mac.

If anyone has successfully worked around this issue or found a smoother alternative, I’d greatly appreciate your input. Any suggestions, examples, or tips would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I suggest using GAMS Connect’s ExcelReader.

Make sure to use GAMS 48, as Connect is still new and just left the beta phase with the GAMS 48 release.

I hope this helps!
