problem with GAMSBAS

Hi
I want to use the GAMSBAS option to save the bases for the next problem. But, GAMS does not identify this option: “unknown algorithm” error
How can i repair this error?
Thanks in advance

Hello

According to the McCarl Extended GAMS help, I do not think you can anymore use GAMSBAS:

GAMSBAS
Top Previous Next

GAMSBAS is a program that was developed at Texas A&M University that saved information providing an advanced basis for a GAMS model but is now inferior to using reSavepoint and has been discontinued.

An older alternative – use GAMSBAS: Bas files
Top Previous Next

For several years before the development of the GDX point file an alternative solver called GAMSBAS was used to cause GAMS to automatically save a basis in terms of executable GAMS statements in a file that could subsequently be incorporated using $include commands. It has now been discontinued.

The GAMSBAS basis handing procedure is inferior to the GDX point file usage due to difficulties and processing speed that can arise with large models. Many statements can appear in the BAS file in cases overwhelming GAMS ability to input statements (in cases adding over a million statements to the GAMS code) and can take a lot of time to compile. Inclusion of a BAS file basis in a Loop was also problematic due to the number of statements needed. The GDX file alternative alleviates these problems.

I hope that helps.
Regards

Hello
Thanks for your reply. I had written to GAMS support about the GAMSBAS problem, too. I think their answer includes some important notes:

GAMSBAS is not part of the GAMS distribution anymore.
GAMS automatically stores the basis from one solve for reuse in the next solve (within the same run of a GAMS model).
If the model does not change much between solves, this should happen automatically.
Otherwise, you may try adding “option bratio = 0” to your GAMS model to make the second solve always try to reuse a given basis (even if incomplete).
For transferring a basis from one model to the next one, you can store the result of the first model in a GDX file and load this file in the next model, e.g., by using the execute_unload and execute_loadpoint commands.
